Energy and climate

Today’s energy sources have become anachronistic, and the search for new solutions should be yielding results by now. Energy production and consumption are the main causes of climate change, and the prevention of all its consequences is already impossible. We can, however, prevent further developments toward the point at which our environment will never recover and at which the consequences extend to the complete destruction of the local biodiversity and balance of nature.

The Estonian Green Movement holds that we need to:

  • find energy-efficient solutions that would reduce both energy consumption and energy use resulting from its production and transportation;
  • increase the share of renewable energy use and facilitate its comprehensive development;
  • preclude energy production techniques harmful to nature, such as oil-shale mining and fracking;
  • focus on the reduction of greenhouse gases and terminate activities that impede this reduction.
