Estonian Green Movement-FoE (ERL) is a non-governmental, non-profit environmental organisation. It was founded already in 1988, becoming one of the first environmental NGOs in Estonia that started to deal with wide range of environment and development issues. Its first campaign was a protest against the opening of a large phosphorite mine in northeast Estonia, which would have brought irreversible damage to ground water, and forest and marine ecological systems. As a result of the successful campaign, Estonian Green Movement-FoE rapidly developed into a nationwide grassroots organisation. Subsequently, Estonian Green Movement-FoE earned credit as a leader in the Estonian independence movement. In its activities the Estonian Green Movement-FoE is backed by nation-wide active network of more than 1000 individual members.
